On a recent trip to Sonoma, I visited a handful of wineries and vineyards with some good friends in the industry. One of the most striking observations was how the dormant grape vines were so meticulously and differently pruned and trimmed. We were all able to get a very close look at a number of different vines because in January the vines were indeed in winter dormancy and had no leaves.
