When the weather changes to cold, wet days, I begin to long for a certain type of soundtrack: melodic, slightly melancholy tunes that make me pensive while driving home at night through a snowstorm, or that simply make me want to lie back on my warm bed listening to the wind outside. Artist Tyler Ramsey’s songs are exactly that. While researching Ramsey, I came across a video of the singer/guitarist playing “Long Dream,” from the album A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea. The hypnotic lyrics consist mainly of the words, “I had a long dream about swimming across the sea,” but the guitar adds such an evocative and haunting quality to the singing that I’ve had the song on repeat ever since. With a new album on the way, Ramsey begins a western tour with a stop at the Sun Valley Opera House, January 18.
