DJ Z-Trip by Courtney Lauck

The kingly aspect of this designation will be understood by anyone who knows of Z-Trip’s accolade-riddled career. If unfamiliar, a quick peek at his bio will make your spine shiver with intimidation. He has played the biggest festivals from Coachella to Electric Daisy Carnival, and collaborated, both as DJ and producer, across genres with artists ranging from Public Enemy to Kasabian to Bassnectar. He has contributed to the soundtracks of multiple video games, including EA’s “Madden,” and has his own avatar in the video game “DJ Hero.” He has scored and composed for multiple films and appeared on three late-night shows (the two Jimmys and Carson Daly). Oh, also, in 2013 he closed out the Grammys with Travis Barker, Chuck D, Tom Morello, and LL Cool J—who has been his close friend and collaborator for the last six or seven years. But if we were to say that Z-Trip’s reputation precedes him, it would be a chicken-or-egg debate as to which was more impressive, the career or the character of the man behind it.
