“This will be our first time in your state,” Hector Flores says, in reference to our gem state of Idaho. And it’s true, as a member of Las Cafeteras, a genre-bending, musically revolutionary Chicano band from East Los Angeles, Flores knows that their group will find themselves in a very different setting from where they originated. As a group, they were born in 2008 at the Eastside Café, a community center in their neighborhood where they learned the traditional Son Jarocho music of Veracruz, Mexico.
