Black Violin by Hayden Seder

Black Violin is all about breaking stereotypes; so much, in fact, that their newest album is titled Stereotypes and comes with a message of staying true to one’s self even though others may judge you. Violinist Kevin Sylvester (stage name Kev Marcus) and viola-player Wilner Baptiste (stage name Wil B) self-describe as two men “who should have gone on to play professional sports” rather than two men who would bend musical genres by combining their classical music training with a love of hip-hop. The result is beautiful string sounds mixed in with beats you can nod your head to. Their talent is recognized by musical greats like Alicia Keys, Linkin Park, and Wu-Tang Clan, who have collaborated with the duo.
